VR News: This is the story of Amanda Greene who is a Lupus Patient that suffers from various pains all over her body. So Applied VR has given her a new lease of life thanks to a Gear VR and phone that she can access her “VR pharmacy” which is basically a selection of therapeutic VR experiences. This is not about VR curing the pain, its just to teach people how to distract their minds from it.

My Thoughts on this Story: I have read various articles about virtual reality being used for mild pain relief but never has it been used to mask the pain of Lupus before. (Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs.) The thing is, when a VR app is peaceful and immersive it can take you away from the outside world quite easily because if there is one thing a good VR app can do its cause immersion. While the VR experiences in the Applied VR “pharmacy” are nothing amazing they do help people to learn how to manage mild, constant pain. You might not see VR on prescription anytime soon, but health-care is an area that VR is set to grow and grow so its nice to see companies like Applied VR getting in their early.
