Presentation: The first thing you will notice when going to unbox the Samsung Gear VR Consumer Edition is how lightweight it is. Remembering that it is a smartphone-powered VR headset means there are no inner workings as such. With a plastic tray holding everything in most people will be left wondering why they have paid so much for this headset. But the magic of it is hidden away on the inside of the headset, but more on that later. When it comes to the unboxing experience there really isn’t a lot to say, but given how lightweight it all is I can’t see much damage happening in transit.

Review: The Samsung Gear VR Consumer Edition looked pretty basic when you compare it to the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition and it didn’t have the large plastic forehead padding only the “round the head” strap with an additional “overhead” head strap in the box for those how needed it. This was a headset designed to be as lightweight as possible and I can speak from personal experience that it was pretty comfortable to wear. Sure, it was pretty heavy on the front once your smartphone was inside it, but again when you compare it to other mobile VR headsets at the time this was groundbreaking and much easier to use and set up than all other mobile VR headsets at the time. While I do recommend you get the later edition of this headset with the Bluetooth clicker this one was still pretty great and at the time well worth the money.
