Description: Built from the ground up for VR, Radiant Crusade is a stylised fusion between a cooperative take on the wave defence genre, and the high-intensity action and freedom of Twisted Metal combat. Players are granted the freedom to explore their environment with unshackled locomotion thanks to intuitive and fluid driving controls, while fully utilising head tracking to grant an unparalleled feeling of control and responsiveness. Armed with 4 powerful abilities that manipulate Space-time, survive against an onslaught of dark creatures seeking to expel you from their realm of darkness.
Review: Radiant Crusade is a tower defence game like you have never played before. With its neon coloured space theming and attack tank the idea is pretty simple. Defend your tower and yourself against waves of enemies. From bugs to giant slugs, they come thick and fast and all you have to do is stop them from destroying you or the tower (or both).
Played using a gamepad you play the role of the tank. You can drive all over the level taking enemies down that are close or driving to meet them to cut downtime. Then for every few enemies, you destroy you will get an upgrade token which you can then spend upgrading yourself or the towers weapons. While the tower doesn’t do much past shooting, you, on the other hand, have 4 weapons to power up. From slow bombs to missiles, but you will have to learn yourself which enemies will need to be taken down with particular weapons. It’s the fact that you can power up the tower and yourself that makes this game stand out from the pack.
While I was never really sure what was going on and never felt in total control I did have a great time playing this game. With its sci-fi style sounds and neon colours it feels like a tank battle, tower defence game played out within the Avatar universe. Sadly this game does get repetitive quickly, but to be honest, there is so much going on you won’t notice time slip away from you and before you know it several hours have passed. If you are looking for something different, give this game a go. Just wait for a good sale though, grab it for half price or better and you will enjoy it way more.
