Review: ‘Outmode’ is a VR and flat-screen racing game with a very 1980s style to it. While the main game is single-player, you can also play local split-screen to eke out the gameplay time. The bad news is right from the off the VR element of this game is not well planned and often doesn’t work at all and that is just with things in the menu! Things do get a little easier when you play with a gamepad, but not much. To make matters worse (yes worse before we get to the main game) the graphical settings don’t work at all and when you change it to ultra setting it goes blank! But don’t worry because the lower settings make the graphics look so crap, it is pointless playing the game with double images and motion blur all over the place. Once I played this game on the desktop most of the main issues went away, but this is not a flat-screen review, it is for the VR side of things and there is simply no way I would recommend this game based on its current state. It looks like a fun little indie racer, but the VR implementation makes it verging on the unplayable which is a real shame. I think with some improvements I could change my mind about recommending it, but not before that.
