While very little is truly known about the Oculus Go there are some pieces that we can put together about it. With the trailer showing the position of the integrated spatial audio…
And the Best Buy listing product description reading “Ships with integrated spatial audio — the speakers are built right into the headset, transporting you straight into VR and making the headset easy to share with someone else”
But then I realised something else. Take a look at this photo…
You will notice the head strap is away from the ears which probably means the built-in speakers are located here…
Being located just behind the adjustment knuckle of the head strap seems to me like the most logical position. But you might be wondering how loud it is if it doesn’t have to be right over the ear. That was when I come to the conclusion these people are not wearing it correctly…
As you can see in this image the head strap covers the ears which should be the best way to wear the Go. But sadly until we get to see one being tested and used I guess we will just have to speculate. When it was seen in a grapical demo at Oculus Connect it appeared to be located in the knuckle of the head strap…
So this leads me to conclude something you might not have thought about…
If the speakers are indeed located within the arm rather than the head strap it makes sense that the arms can be adjusted in position because everyone’s ears are in a different location! Sure, if the little slits in the sides of the head strap are where the sounds come out it might mean the quality of the audio is not amazing. But for the price you are paying you can’t expect Bang & Olufsen style quality. These days speakers can be surprisingly good in the smallest of sizes so I just hope it is of Rift quality or thereabouts.
Sadly we will have to wait until someone gets lucky enough to get a hands-on test done esspecialy when it comes to the speakers quality. All I do know is the built-in integration will make it much easier to use than most other all-in-one headsets and indeed the Gear VR. What do you think about the adjustable arms theory?
