Review: It’s felt like I have been waiting forever for a good chess game to come along in VR, but can Magic Table Chess really be the one I have been waiting for? With its multiple playing environments and soft soundtrack it sure sets the mood for playing chess perfectly and even surrounds you in art to inspire you. This is clearly made by people who love chess and enjoy playing it in relaxing environments.
While some of the modes and options are not available yet, I did find what was there and what is coming soon to be pretty much perfect. From changing the chess boards to changing the playing pieces, you really can change pretty much anything you need to change. At the end of the day, you are here to play chess and it does a great job of it. I would have liked maybe some move timers for people that like to use them and maybe a viewing mode for people who just want to watch 2 people battle it out. When this game gets its multiplayer mode, look me up, because I am always up for a challenge.
Make no bones about it, if you like chess you will enjoy this, but if you don’t like chess, you won’t! It’s as simple as that. Now, looking at this game from a chess players perspective I loved it and would happily pay for more features like multiplayer and touch controls. But even with the features is has now it kept me amused for hours and playing chess is VR is just as good as I imagined. The AI has a nice range of difficulty settings and pretty much every feature you might want is included. If you love chess, this is a must.
