Description: As you journey deep into the dungeon, you will find weapons, items, and long forgotten magic.. ..if you’re lucky, it might help you to fight off the droves of mysterious creatures you will encounter. There will be complete darkness to contend with, potions to quaff, secrets to discover, traps to avoid, hats to wear, and treasure that (if you make it out alive) will make you a legend. Legend of Dungeon is a randomly generated action RPG Beat’em’up with heavy Rogue-like elements, striking visuals, and dynamic music.

Review: Legend of Dungeon is all about retro fun and very little else. There is no storyline to follow along with here, put short you are a dungeon adventurer and you have to try and reach the 26th floor of the dungeon. Why? Because there is a legendary treasure there just waiting to be picked up. Of course, things are not that simple and there are lots of monsters to slay and traps to avoid.

What I did love is just how simple this game is to control. You can play on a keyboard or controller, but you don’t need many buttons at all. Once you have configured those you set off into the randomly generated dungeon to fight enemies and pick up all the treasure you can. While this all sounds simple enough it really isn’t and just about anything can kill you, even a potion that you picked up on a previous game can then kill you in the next one, each game is a matter of trial and error, over and over again. That might make this game sound chaotic, but it is more fun than it sounds. You then travel onwards level after level through some pretty cool looking dangerous, in VR this is played out in what looks like set pieces and it does look quite cool, but don’t expect anything mind-blowing.

Legend of Dungeon is for those of us with 8-Bit memories of games like Rogue or Sleepwalker for the Atari ST or maybe Gauntlet in the arcade. While the learning curve to this game is an upwards arrow, it is still lots of fun even though it will often make you want to pull your hair out. It has that retro classic RPG feel to it, but it is not for those of us who like our retro arcade action a little more straight forward.
