Description: Dragonflight VR is a multi-level VR experience featuring massive, destructible environments, fast-paced combat with enemy dragons swarming the skies around you, ancient castles teeming with archers, and lost wizard towers shrouded in mist. Ride your dragon over the mountainous countryside, through showers of flaming arrows, and then deep into canyons where huge dragons rule. The only way to get a more realistic feeling of riding a dragon than Dragonflight VR would be to breed one!
Review: Fantasy medieval worlds are something that hasn’t been represented a lot in VR, so imagine my surprise when I stumbled across Dragonflight on the Steam VR store. This early access game is a fast-paced, all-action fantasy game that enables you to fulfil that lifelong dream of riding on the back of a dragon. But this is not the cartoon world of How to Train Your Dragon, this is the world is realistic fantasy and to be fair the dragons look stunning.
There are a number of missions to play and a few ways to play with this game. There is a free flight for those who just want to experience the beauty of riding a giant dragon through the hills and valleys as well as some combat missions where you will duel it out with other dragons and destroy various buildings along the way. When this game gets crazy around the action scenes it looks amazing with all the flames and fire arrows going off all over the place, it looks like a big-budget fantasy film.
While still in very early access, Dragonflight has massive potential to be a unique game. The VR mode at the moment is very hit and miss and getting the seating arrangement just right is a nightmare. But they are working on it. While it is liable to make you feel rather nauseous the experience of riding on the back of a dragon is one that looks, sounds and feels amazing. Even knowing that it is only a game I felt incredibly powerful on my dragons and thought we would be able to fly anywhere we wanted. Certainly not a perfect game by any standards, but pretty good at such an early stage.
