Description: Crystal Rift is an inspired by classic dungeon games such as Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder with grid-based movement, it has been developed primarily for Virtual Reality headsets, but is also a great experience for those without headsets.
It’s an experiential horror challenge game that takes the player through a series of increasingly mysterious locations. Crystal Rift has 26 levels, with unique styles and settings, to provide many hours of gameplay. The player slowly uncovers the narrative and story through exploration, discovering dark secrets and following the path of those who have come before.
The levels themselves are very block/grid bases in both play and movement style, but inside of VR you don’t really notice it that much because you can look around wherever you want with the touch. With some good, scary moments, atmospheric graphics and immersive sound you can easily enjoy this game.
The biggest problem with this game is that it simply isn’t VR friendly (but it is clear that it as been made with a lot of love). While it is a good game at heart, in VR it is not easy to play without feeling ill. Now, saying that some people don’t suffer from VR motion sickness and those of us who don’t will have a fun time running around the levels, killing anything that moves. While some of the traps are difficult they don’t require too much thought which gives the game fast-flowing gameplay. The good thing is, when you get bored of all the levels, you can simply make new ones! I do understand why some people might dislike this game, but I also think there is an awful lot to like about it as well. If you have a VR sickness stomach like an iron tank, you will find some long-term fun with this game at a very affordable price.
