Review: The wait for Arizona Sunshine to come out seems to have lasted forever. But finally here we are, but was it worth the wait? Well, the bad news is the storyline is pretty much nonexistent. There are zombies, it’s the end of the world and you are just trying to survive. Sadly graphics are nothing much to talk about either, sure they are adequate, but nothing special by any stretch of the imagination. But yet, once you start playing this game you won’t care about any of those things.
This game reminds me of SEGA’s House of the Dead series, it is all about fast paced shooting and the satisfaction of surviving. Set over ten levels, not all of them are in daylight, in fact, some of them are very dark and very scary indeed, but the jumpscares are nothing too frightening because they are thrown in with the action. The good news is you do get a tutorial level to get used to everything where you will be aiming for beer bottles that are not after your flesh. Add to that you also get a laser pointer to guide you meaning it really is a matter of “point, shoot and reload” from the start of the game to the finish, but at least you get a nice range of weapons along the way.
hile the storyline, low-quality graphics and repetitive gameplay are all down point, it is the simplistic gameplay and joy of playing this game that makes it so good. You will soon find yourself sweating like a pig in a butcher’s shop trying to take down the zombies that often surround you. It feels so crazily immersive, that at one point I was swearing like a trooper, getting angrier and angrier as I start to fear for my life! If this is the start of VR games development, my mind boggles at what games will be like in just a few years time.
