Review: A Large Quantity Of Mushrooms (ALQOM for short) is a pretty scary looking and feeling adventure game that puts you in the shoes of what I can only guess is someone who has been kidnapped and taken to a weird, surreal world full of mushrooms. OK, so it is not actually full of mushrooms and the changes are good that this game is best played while on a large quantity of magic mushrooms, but it is full of horror and suspense which ticks my boxes.
You wake up in a room with a rather scary looking Emo girl looking at you with her big glowing eyes. Then, once you come around after passing out again she is gone and you are allowed to get up out of bed and explore the environment. With some of the creepiest looking scenery, you will ever see you soon realise that it is up to you to make a story out of this game as it doesn’t actually have one. You move from location to location, each time it gets stranger and stranger until the point when you go on a metro train to a whole new world!
While it has very little in the way of story-driven narrative this game relies a lot on your own imagination to drive the story. Each new room and each new object you come across sparks your imagination as to what is going on and personally I liked that it was up to my own mind as to what was going on and the story behind it. This game is perfect to play on a spooky Halloween night, with some truly weird scenes and that odd sense of fear and danger that seems to follow you. It won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but if you like to just explore a game environment without being driven by the storyline, this is perfect for you.
