Review: Being a fan of the original Nintendo duck hunt I was looking forward to getting into this game. But once I got into it I soon realised just how far things have come in the world of the duck shooting game. First off, this game is played in 360° VR (obviously) and it is also a lot better looking than the old NEW game. The cartoon graphics are gone and replaced with some pretty good looking visuals. While dog shooting gore is kept to a minimum, it just feels a lot more realistic than the cartoon ducks of NES games every did.
The idea is pretty simple. Shoot ducks, don’t miss! Of course, there is a lot more to it than that. With ducks appearing all around you, power-ups and even scenery to contend with it is a lot more challenging that any game from the NES days. But the good news is that the ‘Pick-up-and-play’ style still remains. I didn’t need read any instructions, I instantly knew what to do with is a good testimonial to the maker of the game keeping it simple.
Those of us who have fond memories of the classic game played with an NES light gun accessory might not find what they want with this game. But look beyond the namesake and you will see a fun, arcade style duck shooting game that looks amazing and is loads of fun to play. After all, this isn’t 1984 it’s 2016 and things have moved a long way in terms of graphics and gameplay. This game is the perfect upgrade to a classic gameplay style, even if it isn’t an original remastered.
