Review: For the love of me, I can’t work out why there aren’t more platformers like ‘Ven VR Adventure’ in VR. It’s a great medium for the genre and even the most simplistic of platformers look amazing thanks to depth perception. The good news is ‘Ven VR Adventure’ is far from simplistic, in fact, it’s pretty gorgeous looking. From its beautiful levels to the wonderful animation of the main character himself the whole game has an air of polish and love that we have not seen in a platformer since Lucky’s Tale. Its a joy to play, its a joy to see and while I love my platform games anyway this is one of the very best of them.
The bad news is the game is not perfect. There are times when your characters will get lost behind the scenery and using the motion controllers is pretty much pointless. I would have much preferred to use a gamepad instead of motion controllers. But it is the length of the game that really puts a dampener on things as most seasoned platform game players (like myself) will finish this in less than a few hours making that £23.79 a massive chunk to swallow. Don’t get me wrong, I did love it, I fact, I loved it a lot, but I wish it was half if not less of its current price.
