My Thoughts on this Story: Whether I would like to admit it or not I do feel its a very wise decision on behalf of Microsoft. All us VR fans know the technology does indeed need to get a lot better for it to succeed. But having said that the success of the PSVR has to be a small part of the reason why its already too late for Microsoft to launch a headset now.
So will we ever see Microsoft launch a VR headset? I guess that will depend on how other headsets sell and if Sony carries on with their own VR legacy. It has to be said that Microsoft has been a little burnt by VR with all the “Mixed-Reality” headsets not selling that well at all. It just seems VR as a whole is on a very thin line at the moment, but even if big names fall along the way-side, VR fans like myself and may other will keep it going, even if we have to fund games and development ourselves. Let’s face it, the original Oculus DK1 had reached its Kickstarter funding goal well before Facebook came onto the scene, so Microsoft giving up isn’t exactly the end of VR, but it will sure be a kick in the nuts for Xbox owners who wanted it.
