Description: Introducing the most breathtaking chess game ever made. Chess Ultra features stunning 4K visuals, seamless online multiplayer and Grandmaster-approved AI that offers the ultimate chess experience.

Review: Chess is not something I thought I would ever enjoy in VR, but time and time again I have enjoyed it. Sure, playing chess in VR is not something new (or something I would have expected on the PSVR) but Chess Ultra pretty much brings everything to the table and lets you pick which you want. It brings both VR and TV support, Multiplayer, multi-location and it even has a chess tutorial! You can play the game with a range of controls, but using the Playstation Move controllers feels much more immersive.

The main selling point of this game is the playing environment. Not only do you get some great room locations, but you can also play in Hell with the Grim Reaper himself! If that didn’t reason enough for chess fans to buy this game there is also great multiplayer options for up to 6 people. Or maybe just challenge the AI to several different games. There really is something here for everyone, provided you love your chess.

While I can’t understand the point of this sort of game being on the PSVR I do appreciate that of the 3 main VR headsets (Oculus Rift, Vive, PSVR) the PSVR is the most comfortable meaning it is better suited for playing long games like chess. While it doesn’t reinvent the game of chess, it does give you some nice locations to play it in. While a little blurry in terms of graphics there really isn’t a lot wrong with Chess Ultra at all, so if you like chess or have ever wanted to learn how to play it, maybe consider giving it a go. Just don’t expect anything other than a nice game of chess in some great looking environments.
